Remove tree sap safely with Lavender Essential Oil
You may know from experience how stubborn and sticky tree sap can be. If you look up “how to remove sap from your hands” you’ll get all kinds of suggestions for household remedies including rubbing peanut butter, Crisco, toothpaste, nail polish remover, bug spray or WD-40 all over your hands! Removing this tacky substance doesn’t have to be as unpleasant as these options sound. Not when there is a much better smelling, all-natural, non-toxic alternative – Organic Lavender Essential Oil.
Lavender Essential Oil is an effective & non-toxic solvent
One of lavender essential oil's least known attributes is that of being a highly effective organic solvent. It will rapidly help remove grease, glues and paint from various surfaces all the while with a much more pleasant (and safer to smell) odor than other chemical solvents.
Lavender Essential Oil has many natural therapeutic uses
We are distilling gallons upon gallons of lavender essential oil at the farm right now. Did you know that it has many therapeutic uses and is one of the few essential oils that can be used directly on the skin? Here are a few of our favorite uses... As a topical pain reliever and antiseptic, apply a few drops to treat cuts, burns, abrasions, insects bites and stings. Dab a drop on the upper lip at bedtime as a soothing sleep inducer.
Freshly harvested lavender flowers headed to the distillery
Come the end of summer, the lavender fields have faded to a blueish-gray. Though they are not the stunning sea of vibrant purple they were in July and August, they are at the "peak of fragrance" when the buds are ripe with oil. When the breeze is just right, you can smell lavender from miles away! All this lavender is heading to the distillery...
Distillation of Lavender Essential Oil at Pelindaba Lavender Farm
It has begun! The annual lavender essential oil and hydrosol distillation is underway. Fresh lavender flowers, heavy with oil, are harvested from the fields and transported across the farm to the distillery where gallons of pure, perfect essential oil and hydrosol are distilled everyday. The distillery is located right next to our Visitor Center and is in operation most weekdays. If you stop by for a visit this month you might see it in action!
The Natural First Aid Uses of Lavender Essential Oil
Did you know #lavender is a very effective topical anesthetic for treating superficial cooking, baking or #summer grilling burns? #Bee stings and bug bites too! It's a good thing to have in your everyday first-aid kit, especially in the summertime.
Natural first aid & personal hygiene provided by lavender
Our organically certified 100% pure Lavender Hydrosol is produced during the steam distillation of essential lavender oil on the farm. Lavender hydrosol is a natural and (technically speaking) permanent colloidal suspension of a small amount of essential lavender oil in a large volume of water. It is an ideal vehicle for bringing the properties of lavender essential oil to a variety of therapeutic needs.

Daily-Life Uses of Organic Lavender Essential Oil
In a dropper bottle we use it in the bath, in the diffuser, as a solvent to remove adhesives and the like and between our dog's shoulder blades to keep fleas and ticks at bay. In a roll-on bottle we use it to treat bites, stings & burns and to aid healing, on our upper lips at bedtime to help us sleep, on the temples to reduce tension headaches, on exposed skin as an insect repellant or simply as a delicate perfume. All that from 1 single ingredient, lavender essential oil. Plants are amazing!

Our Favorite Lavender Products Wherever We Go
Lavender's broad-ranging, naturally occurring properties provide benefit to nearly every aspect of daily life. Whether one is being creative in the kitchen, caring for their health and well-being, managing their home, caring for their pets, cultivating a garden, etc., lavender has a useful place. We've curated a list of several of our favorite lavender products that we (and others) love to use at home or out and about. Where do you use your lavender?
Lavender Essential Oil Distillation
In the distillery we are working through the last of the lavender harvest. As time consuming as it is to harvest by hand and as material intensive as it is to distill pure plant essential oils, it is a highly rewarding process. At the end of every day, we have 35 gallons of organic lavender hydrosol and 5 gallons of organic lavender essential oil ready to be aged. It requires 1,280 plants to make that much hydrosol and essential oil! Talk about a daily labor of love!
Distilling lavender essential oil at the farm
This is what the very end of the distillation cycle looks like moments after the steam chamber is opened revealing hot, steamy, post-distillation plant material. Our farm crew works very hard harvesting by hand all day long and toting hundreds of pounds of lavender to the distillery for each distillation cycle. The moment the steam chamber is opened they get a well-deserved and all too brief trip to a lavender steam bath. We wish you call could come to our "farm spa" and experience it too!
A lavender face mask for all of us lavender lovers!
A lavender face mask for all of us lavender lovers! Sewn by hand on San Juan Island, WA, these masks are made with a striking lavender flower patterned 100% cotton exterior and muslin lining. Pair your lavender mask with our Organic Lavender Essential Oil to carry the soothing, calming and anxiety-reducing properties of lavender with you throughout the day. A couple of drops on your mask will make a trip to the grocery store almost like strolling through a field of lavender.
Lavender Buds Full of Essential Oil
Did you know that, although there is also some lavender essential oil produced in the stems and foliage, it is most concentrated in the buds? Squeeze a few between your fingers and you'll see what we mean! If you have any sachets at home that aren't as fragrant as they once were, give them a good squeeze to break open the buds and release more essential oil. This will extend the sachet's life. That was a pro tip!
