Soup kitchens were the first “solution” implemented to help people during the great depression. They were run by municipal and provincial governments since the federal wouldn’t help. This picture shows a huge line for a soup kitchen. I found this on Wikipedia and many other sites and it is definitely a primary source. People in this time were desperate and needed food and warm place to sit for a wile and the soup kitchens did a pretty good job of that.

On to Ottawa Trek--many sources use the same picture making it reliable--Canadians were desperate and needed jobs.  People loaded on to trains to try to head to Ottawa to demanding to speak with leaders.This shows how tough times were and how people were angry with the government.
