What others are saying

A white indentured servant girl finds herself perilously straddling two very different worlds lending the reader a peek into plantation life from a different point of view.

When a white servant girl violates the order of plantation society, she unleashes a tragedy that exposes the worst and best in the people.

The Kitchen House- great book . One of my top 5 novels. More complex then "The Help"

This is like Gone With the Wind, without the self-indulgence. I would think it is a much more realistic view of the good and the bad of plantation life.
