The Turnspit Dog was a short-legged, long-bodied dog bred to run on a wheel, called a turnspit or dog wheel, to turn meat. The type is now extinct. It is mentioned in Of English Dogs in 1576 under the name "Turnespete".
The extinct Blue Paul Terrier. This breed introduced blue terriers into Scotland. They are linked to origins with the sailor John Paul Jones as their creator and were known as a "ruthless fighting dog" in the days of dog fighting being a more widespread form of entertainment. Their decline began with the introduction of the American Pit Bull Terrier, which despite their involvement in creating the APBT, they began to replace the Blue Paul Terrier.
