SS American Star A ship with a colorful history, the SS American Star was originally built by the United States Line in 1936 as the SS America. Until 1964 she served as one of the fastest passenger liners on the ocean. Renamed USS West Point during the war, the SS America returned to civilian service in 1946 and continued to serve until being sold in 1964.The American Star in 2000
