John Deere two cylinder model R. The first diesel by John Deere, and the first with live PTO. Built from 1949-1954 at the Waterloo plant. The 416cid, 5.750" bore x 8.000" stroke, 16:1 compression ratio two cylinder engine generated 43.15 drawbar horsepower and 48.58 belt horsepower at 1000 RPMs. All 21,293 built were standard tread and were pony start. There were Rice Specials built, but the numbers on how many are sketchy.
