Glenora Ferry near Picton Ontario. Loved going on this when I was a kid, and it was a thrill to take my kids on it when we went camping at SandBanks Prov. Park, or on our trips to Kingston. It was worth the side trip.
You're not likely to find little Prince Edward County listed at the top of Canada's tourist sites. The quaint, rural Ontario county is somewhat of a secret destination for travellers from across Ontario, Montreal and New York state. There probably isn't a straight road in the county but there are nearly 40 wineries and dozens of galleries, studios and culinary treats. For a popular destination which includes the famous Sandbanks park, the county is amazingly unspoiled.
John A. Macdonald, first prime minister of Canada, lived for three years at Glenora, where his father operated a grist mill. Later the family moved to Kingston, but in 1833, Macdonald returned to the Picton area to take over a law practice for his ailing cousin, winning his first case at Picton Court House.
