Immigration

After the war, immigration to Canada was encouraged again but it was extremely limited. Canada wanted mostly Western-European immigrants and British and American immigrants. Many people had become suspicious of non-British or foreigners and were Xenophobic. To finally become an immigrant and stay in Canada, it was compulsory for immigrants to pass an English test.

Also from the Souvenir Views set, this photo provides a rare image of the Trust & Loan Co. Building on Portage Avenue East, approximately in the location of the current Bank of Canada Building. The Dominion Theatre is also shown together with a barrier-free Portage and Main. This has become my most popular photo. Possibly the most popular photo in the history of Flickr. Not sure why.
