Most of teens at school don’t ask any more if they can see my phone. They ask if they can see my I-phone. The apple company has popularized its merchandize to a whole new level, having as main products the new sets of I-phones that come out every year for a couple of more hundreds of bucks. When these new models come out, absurdly large amount of people line up out of the stores, days and even weeks before they come out, so that they can have one of the first ones.
Imagine being tied to a chair for most part of your life, without talking or seeing friends; without knowing what is out there. Harsh right? Well that is what Genie had to go through for 12 years of her life. She was discovered in California at age 13. She had been tied to a potty chair in the same room for almost her entire life. Due to her isolation and no mobility, she did not learn how to walk correctly, nor to go to the bathroom. Her vocabulary was very limited as well.
In this photo, my brother is holding a piece of paper that reads “Depression,” while I’m looking at him in a judgemental way. This artistic picture, is intending to represent the stigma towards mental illnesses. Stigma is the reproach on one´s reputation, which can lead to disgrace. Many stereotypes hover around mental illness.
My brother spends a lot of time at the computer playing online games. In these, no one except the people he wants, know him. He says he can do whatever he wants, and write in the common online chats what he wants to. In other words his cyber identity sets him “free” on the virtual world, while isolating him from the actual.
My mom and I have always had a strong, good relationship. Since I was born, she would always play with me, which in an unconscious way, slowly instructed me on how to socialize with others. These bonds with parents or guardians are the primary means by which babies and little kids learn on how to integrate into society and make friends.
My brother Mario is doing his homework in this picture. Anyone who looks at this photo can think that Mario is a calm, quiet student that does not talk in class or disturb. As said in one of my other pictures, my brother is far from calm and quiet. He is loud, and very energetic, hyperactive. He has leadership skills, which he often shows in class, but he can also be distracted easily.
This picture was taken about two weeks from now, the last day of the tulip festival. This pleasant photo shows such accuracy and perfection, than it is possible to see the tiny water droplets over the symmetric, white petals. However, in order to achieve this picture, I had to take many others until I finally got it. Every time I took a picture that wasn’t perfect, I corrected my position, angle, focus, lighting, etc.
My brother and I have been asked many times if we were twins. The answer is no, since he is 3 years smaller than me, but it is understandable why people may get confused. This is due to our DNA composition and the heredity of common traits from our parents. DNA is the molecule that contains the genetic makeup that forms every living organism.
