'Convergence', Bigleaf Maple, 110 cm x 110 cm x 40 cm. Part of the oneTree Exhibit at the Robert Bateman Centre in Victoria, BC, Canada. Carved from one branch of a Bigleaf Maple tree, it depicts a cow-calf pair of humpback whales as they glide underneath a kayak. ‘Resonance’ (close up) My public art sculpture commission for Nanaimo's Maffeo Sutton Park. Douglas fir driftwood 6’ x 18” Ocean waves began the sculpting, and I used forms created by natural processes as the impetus. The piece stands as it is because of the long journey from germination to mature tree, to weathered log drifting in the ocean, through to completed sculpture. I wonder, as I carved it - where did this piece come from and where will it go?

'Owl Under the Oaks' - my public art sculpture commission for the Oak Bay district of Victoria, BC.

'Owl Under the Oaks' - my public art sculpture commission for the Oak Bay district of Victoria, BC.

My public art sculpture commission for the Oak Bay district of Victoria, BC. The rainy weather isn’t bringing this Great Horned Owl down as he dances along the street. The owl is made from Black Walnut that was harvested close by to my house. The post is Douglas fir driftwood from the west coast of the island. The umbrella pole is an arbutus tree that died of natural causes in our backyard and the oak leaves are made of white oak wood.
