I LOVE playing literacy games with my students...so this week we focused on learning all about syllables. It went really well with the letter we are learning to print, "D", since we talked about how syllables and drum beats are similar. I had each student stand up one at a time and together as a class we practiced clapping that student's name using our syllables. All day long, I asked students to do different things such as: "If your name has 2 syllables, go wash your hands for snack" or "If…
Instead of having this pre-written, allow the students to write it and change up the letters to see what they can create. I've done a similar activities and kids love this. :)
Gingerbread Part 2
Last week, we were still going strong with our gingerbread adventures! Here are some of our centers! Literacy: We practiced writing our alphabet neatly and then matched gingerbread felt pieces to the matching uppercase felt house. We even practiced putting them in ABC order! Ooohhh….this one was SO much fun! The children stamped sight words into gingerbread playdough and then wrote the word they stamped.
