Algonquin Park - Red Fox
This red fox (Vulpes vulpes) was sitting by the side of the trail we had been hiking in Algonquin Park and approached me. It is not unusual for animals in the park to become quite accustomed to the presence of humans. It's possible that this fox has received food scraps from people in the past -- but not from me. She's a wonderful, if not scruffy, little fox!

The Highland Inn on Cache Lake in Algonquin Park was once an easy weekend outing from Ottawa. You just took J.R. Booth's Canada Atlantic Railway (later part of the Grand Trunk, and later still part of CN). Here is the Canada Atlantic train at the Inn in 1913. It had opened in 1908 and would until 1957, when it was purchased by the Ontario Government, dismantled and burned as part of a plan to return the park to its original state.
