Weekly Round-Up: September 8th

Hi friends! How was your first week back at school? I have the sweetest class ever and I am enjoying them so much already! But I am finding it difficult to get into the swing of things. My new school is a late start school and the dismissal bell doesn't ring until 3:40! By the time our last student is picked up I feel like I have such little time before I need to pack up and leave to go home and make dinner! I'm hoping to get into a better routine soon :) Anyways, I used to do a Five for…

February 2020

Hi friends! Here is what we've been up to in February! 1. DON'T DROP THE ANIMALS! The kiddos LOVED this game!! I got this idea from @rece_fdk_1994 on Instagram. You can see her original post by clicking here. I covered a container filled with water and put a piece of tissue paper on top and secured it with an elastic band. The students were instructed to place an animal on top, roll the dice and poke that many holes in the tissue paper with a toothpick. They repeat until their animal falls…

Teaching Graphing in FDK

Hi friends! I'm super excited to share with you how I made graphing in Kindergarten fun and independent this year! Every year my kids find graphing super fun and engaging but teaching JK/SK (that’s Pre-K/K for my American friends) it was always hard to make this an independent centre. This year I found a solution that worked well! Here is how I taught it: Day 1: Learning Goals & Success Criteria First I introduce the learning goal "We are learning to make graphs". Then we start by talking…

I made this "Roll to the Top!" so the kids could have extra practice with counting and eventually subtilizing numbers on a dice. I have the kids roll and trace the numbers until one number reaches…
