It was a fashion faux pax to have a shirt exposed between the pants and vest. To help avoid this mistake men’s pants were also very high, sitting above the bellybutton, secured by suspenders or a thin leather belt. Suspenders were buttoned on to pants since modern suspender clips had not been invented yet.
1920s Suits, Jazz Age Lawn Party
Mid 1920s 'Jazz Suits' were trendy because after WWI, people started to live a different lifestyle that led away from the formal three piece suit with shoulder pads. Life became edgier, more party-like and men dressed in simpler clothing, with hats, and fashionable chastises to go out dancing and partying.
