Adelina and I flew from Rome to Nice on Monday 2 July 2012 and took a bus from the airport to the Gare Routière de Grasse at the surprisingly low cost of 1 euro per head. We stayed there until Friday 6 July, and made one side trip to the little town of Gourdon on Wednesday 4 July. Highlights of our visit included visits to the perfume factories, the many museums, attending a saxophone concert in the garden of the Villa Fragonard on Thursday evening, and enjoying the cuisine and local wines!
One of the main tasks of the Fragonard laboratory in the Plan de Grasse is to test the quality of the essential oils and materials imported from all parts of the world, before their used in perfume production, as indicated in this display.
Adelina is shown here relaxing in the Place de l'Evêché in the very heart of the historic centre of Grasse. The water in the fountain arrives from the torrent 'La Foux' which has been essential to the city's wellbeing and development since its foundation in the Xth century.
This detail of the monument to the victims of the Resistance in grasse seized my imagination. I would like to have something similar incorporated in the wall of my house, possibly with my own portrait as the captive.
