This is an image of a small portion of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant, which marks the edge of a bubble-like, expanding blast wave from a colossal stellar explosion, occurring about years ago - NASA

Saturn eclipsing the sun, with the Earth visible in the upper left section of Saturn's rings. In 2009, NASA's robotic Cassini spacecraft drifted in Saturn's shadow for about 12 hours and Cassini saw a view unlike any other. The rings light up so much that new rings were discovered. (NASA/APOD)

Artist's concept of one of Europa's water vapor plumes, which seem as though they could very well put Earth’s geysers to shame.

Using Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers have seen evidence of a massive geyser of water erupting from the surface of Jupiter’s icy moon Europa. This plume of water extends as high as 200 kilometers miles) above the surface.

In the past couple of years, a new sibling storm [to Jupiter's Great Red Spot] has erupted. The Little Red Spot, or Red Spot Jr., formed from the merger of three smaller white-colored storms in Jupiter’s southern hemisphere. The Little Red Spot, [at center of this picture], has kept growing since it was discovered in 2006 and is now about the size of Earth—and with wind speeds of 400 mph, it is now spinning as fast as its larger predecessor.

NGC The 'Fireworks Galaxy' NGC 6946 is a medium-sized, face-on spiral galaxy about 22 million light years away from Earth. In the past century, eight supernovas have been observed to explode in the arms of this galaxy.
