Kuper Island Indian Residential School history.
Kuper Island Indian Residential School was operational in British Columbia between 1890, and closed sometime between 1975 and 1978. This school was of Roman Catholic denomination. Originally a boys school, girls were admitted shortly thereafter, and it became a co-ed school. Discontent was marked at this school and it has been recorded that some students drowned while trying to escape. A former instructor, Glen Doughty, was sentenced to jail time for sexual assault against boys. -Paula…
